Our Beliefs
At Peace Church Wayland, our beliefs are rooted in Scripture and reflect our vision to see the Gospel embraced and passed on for generations of Kingdom impact. They guide everything we do and align with our values of being Gospel-centered, family-focused, and Kingdom-minded.

GOD
We believe in one God who eternally exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal, co-eternal, and distinct, yet one in essence. This is the mystery of the Trinity, revealing the beauty and unity of God. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

JESUS CHRIST
Jesus Christ is God the Son, fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life, was born of a virgin, performed miracles, and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for our sins through His death on the cross. He rose from the dead, ascended to heaven, and will return in glory to reign forever. (John 1:1,14; Philippians 2:5-8; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity who indwells all believers, empowering them for godly living, understanding of Scripture, and service. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and equips the church with spiritual gifts for Kingdom impact. (John 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 12:7-11)

THE BIBLE
We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God. It is our final authority for faith, practice, and life, revealing the truth of who God is and how we are to live as His people. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Hebrews 4:12)

HUMANITY
God created humanity in His image to reflect His glory and enjoy a relationship with Him. However, through sin, we are separated from God and in need of redemption. Only through Jesus Christ can we be reconciled to God and restored to our original purpose. (Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 3:23; Ephesians 2:1-10)

SALVATION
Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. It is a gift of God, not earned by human effort. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus provides the only way to forgiveness of sins, eternal life, and reconciliation with God. (Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 10:9-10; John 14:6)

THE CHURCH
The church is the body of Christ, made up of all believers worldwide. Locally, we gather to worship, grow in God’s Word, serve one another, and share the Gospel. As a family of families, we seek to nurture faith across generations and advance God’s Kingdom in our community and beyond. (Acts 2:42-47; Ephesians 4:11-16; Matthew 28:19-20)

THE FUTURE
Jesus Christ will return to establish His eternal Kingdom. Believers will dwell with Him forever in perfect joy, while those who reject Him will face eternal separation from God. (John 14:2-3; Revelation 21:1-4; Matthew 24:30)

Our Distinctives
Inerrancy
We affirm that the whole of Scripture and all its parts, down to the very words of the original, were given by divine inspiration (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21). We affirm that Scripture in its entirety is inerrant, being free from all falsehood, fraud, or deceit (Proverbs 30:5; John 10:35). We affirm that the Holy Spirit bears witness to the Scriptures, assuring believers of the truthfulness of God's written Word (John 14:26; 1 Corinthians 2:12-13).

We hold to the doctrine of verbal plenary inspiration, meaning that every word of Scripture is God-breathed (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21). The Bible, therefore, is not just true but the highest authority for life and faith, a sacred and awe-inspiring gift from God (Psalm 119:160; John 17:17).

Sexuality
We believe God designed marriage to be between one man and one woman for life and for sex to remain within such a marriage (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4-6). Although there are many temptations in this world, we believe sex outside of such a marriage to be sin (Hebrews 13:4). Those living in sin should turn to Christ with faith and repentance, receive God’s forgiveness, and come to live according to God’s good design (1 Corinthians 6:9-11; Acts 3:19). We believe God created man in his own image, male and female in knowledge righteousness and holiness with dominion over the creatures (Genesis 1:27).

Complementarity
We believe God created human beings, male and female, and that God made men and women equal in value yet distinct in role (Genesis 1:27; Galatians 3:28). God has given both men and women extraordinary gifts for ministry but has called men into unique roles of Christ-like leadership in the home and in the church (1 Timothy 2:12; Titus 1:5-9). Specifically — within the church — we believe God calls men exclusively to be pastors and elders (1 Timothy 3:1-7). Within the home, we believe that God calls men to love their wives like Christ loves the church (his bride), and wives are called to submit to their husbands like the church does to Christ (Ephesians 5:22-25).
